EDA holds events with local politicians and Councillors representing local people. These are intended to bring local resident together with local representatives and service providers, such as Local Council. These events have a theme approach and the outcome is questions are answered,  invited guest speakers have the opportunity to listen people’s local issues, explain their views and also how they are tackling and working on local people’s behalf.

These events will build on dialogues we are having with local representatives. EDA is happy to assist with raising questions that disabled people, people with mental issues or people with long term health issues may have. Read the report from the previous event here.

EDA’s Councillors’ Question Time took place on 31st May 2016. There were many issues raised from the well attended event. There were many heartfelt and personal accounts, heard as examples of the barriers and lack of resources and specialist assistance which Deaf and disabled people face on a daily basis. A frank, open and useful discussion and exchange. It is hoped that this will contribute to influencing the decision regarding the Deaf Project service cuts, which has a disproportionate impact. Other issues such as housing and funding local people to provide the services and support so vitally needed was also discussed.
We are still weeks away form presenting the petition and it is therefore important to keep encouraging people to show their support by signing the petition here. An event report will be available shortly.

As the umbrella agency for local deaf and disabled people in Enfield we hold regular meetings to discuss and provide the most up to date information about people’s experiences. For example we compile information on issues with benefits and appeals, as well as other  social policy. We are also regularly asked to provide information and expertise to help the planing of services to local people.
