Disclosure Barring Service (DBS)

Disclosure Barring Service (DBS)

EDA offers a DBS checking service. We carry out our own checks for our staff and volunteers and are offering this service to other organisations.

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) replaces the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA).

The online process is quick and simple and we offer competitive rates.

We offer the following type of checks:

Basic DBS                                                                                                       £44.00 per application

A basic disclosure will search for any unspent convictions on an individual’s           criminal history this helps to make an informed decision when employing someone and prevents the hiring of unsuitable candidates around vulnerable groups. A Basic DBS Check is not job specific.

Standard DBS check:                                                                                  £44.00  per application A standard DBS check is an in-depth background check used by employers on behalf of applicants to verify if a candidate is suitable to hire for work in a specific industry. It will show details of all cautions, warnings, reprimands, as well as all spent and    unspent convictions held on an individual’s criminal record.

Enhanced DBS check:                                                                                £66.00 per application

This is the highest level of DBS check. We recommend it for people working with    children and/or vulnerable adults. It has the same PNC information as the standard check but also includes a check of police records held locally and information held by the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA).

To apply for an Enhanced DBS check, an applicant MUST be involved in what is called ‘Regulated Activity’. Regulated Activity is made up of many components which all, or at least some, must be met to apply for this level of check.

ISA Adult First check             £16.00 plus the price of a basic/standard/enhanced check

This is an extra check that can be done before the results of the enhanced check. It allows an employer to access a list of people who the police deem unsuitable to work with vulnerable adults.

Volunteer Enhanced  check:                                                                 £26.00 per application

Volunteer Basic check:                                                                           £44.00 per application
